Snow Day… … January 31, 2007

I’m surprised nobody has expressed their unsurmountable joy that we have a snow day. Well, I am going to express how pointless it is. The roads aren’t even that bad. And although I now have more time to write my English essays and decipher my Psych essay prompt, it doesn’t really matter for me. In fact, knowing me I’ll probably end up wasting my time, and begin working when I would have with school anyways. I doubt many people will actually use this extra time productive. And to be honest, I actually needed to talk to somebody at school. I mean, I could call him, but that would prove to be slightly awkward (though I have called him for no reason before). And I really wanted to see one of my friends who I couldn’t see over the weekend because he was grounded and I wasn’t allowed to go to his game. Eh… snow day…

So, this is something which will probably only interest me. But I think it’s awesome. The next version (2.43) of the wonderful program Blender 3D will contain something called sculpt tools. They let you use the mouse to shape your model like clay; click and drag to pull part of it out or push it in. You can even paint physical textures directly onto it.

Click “more” and get a look at what can be done with this…

Argh… in regards to snow January 31, 2007

I don’t know if I really want snow. I know it makes Paco happy for snow. But I don’t know… I like snow and all, but I’m really kind of tired of it. And I do want to be able to drive. And unlike Paco, my car doesn’t have four wheel drive, or have a two foot clearance above ground. If it has to be cold, I would want precipitation. But I much rather prefer rain to snow. Rain makes me happy :) . And rain is nice to road conditions.

And I don’t know if I want a snow day… to be honest I don’t like staying home.

That four-day weekend ended. You can definitely tell school is in session. I’m already BS-ing assignments due tomorrow that I’ve put off until tonight. And I mean BS, not even doing. Actually, I think I have to actually write that Psych essay. Not only that, but Luke and I have even already created plans regarding physics tomorrow. Back in school. Dammit.

Violence January 30, 2007

I used to be so desensitized to violence. I was able to watch Kill Bill movies or Sin City perfectly fine. I was desensitized to violence. But I don’t know anymore. Now, I’m not one bit. I tried watching Quentin Tarantino movies again. I just can’t. I can’t stay through them. I watched Braveheart. I was cringing because of the violence. I can’t stand violence. At all. I seem to have so little tolerance for it. I just can’t stand watching it anymore.

Today + Modern Music January 30, 2007

First, I’m gonna say let’s not talk about crashes or anything like that. Let’s not talk about driving, actually. I don’t know… I was really mad coming back from registration today and was driving home at 80 mph… surprisingly there was a car right on my tail. Ugh… today… so my schedule is as planned (AP English, AP Biology, AP French 4, Health, Government, Human Geography, LANL Co-op). So that was good. I had to go through tennis tryouts with an inflamed ligament in my right shoulder. So that was not good. Let’s talk about music.

I am so envious of the 60s and 70s generation. Actually, it would be the 40s, 50s, and 60s generation. Music in general has gone downhill. First, technology. I mean, the iPod is amazing. I love mine. But with all these innovations for convenience so much has been lost. Think first about most of our music collections. We probably have mostly mp3, m4a or plain CDs. And we probably have some great sound system set up somewhere in the house to listen to them. But all of these formats, even AIFF and just plain CDs are nothing compared to records. Records are amazing. They have amazing sound quality. It’s a shame that we don’t cut them anymore. I’m so jealous of Mr. A because he has every great album on vinyl, and I’m a little jealous of Mr. T because he has the special limited vinyl edition of the new Bob Dylan album. Basically, records are amazing and it’s a great shame that we no longer have them.

Now for concerts too. I mean, they had The Beatles, The Who, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Johnny Cash, all those amazing artists. And they had them in concert. Sure, we have some Stones concerts and Dylan as well. But it’s not the same. Dylan has lost some of his skill, and the Stones are in Europe unfortunately. What are we left with? Green Day, Nickelback, Foo Fighters (these are concerts that have been held within 200 miles of where I live). Sure, they may have a few good songs and may put on a good concert. But none of these beat seeing The Who live, or Led Zeppelin, and definitely not Jimi Hendrix (who is also the master of in-concert improv, live Hendrix is so much better than recorded Hendrix). Do you see what I mean? Those are the greatest concerts in all of history. Woodstock? That made history man. We’re never going to have a concert that comes anywhere near Woodstock caliber. And I mean music-wise, not the drug and sex.

Those were the times man. And I wholeheartedly wish that I could have lived then. Admittedly, I would probably be a flower child. But that doesn’t matter.
