Worst of Film making December 20, 2006

All who know me to a certain degree know that I enjoy making movies. I have fun making them. There is one stage, however, that I detest. This stage is the stage of exporting the film, and then placing it on dvd. The reason this stage is so hideous is that it never works as planned, and that if you want it to work, you have to stay up all night with the computer to make sure that it does it right. I am now, yes you’ve guessed it, staying up witht the computer, and making sure it works. They need to come up with an easier and more efficient method of doing this.

I have seen a whole bunch of amazing films. Among these, one can count Star Wars, LOTR, Hotel Rwanda, Braveheart, Happy Feet, and others. Tonight, I have just finished watching another movie, which I believe is to be placed up at the very top of the list of best movies ever made. This movie is German film, telling the tale of a Jewish refugee family during World War II. This movie is called “Nowhere in Africa”. I recommend this movie to everyone. It is truly a beautiful film.

Pandora: Like a Radio Station, Only Better October 24, 2006

Pandora (http://www.pandora.com) is an interesting service I just discovered. Once you sign up for an account, it asks you to choose a song you like. Put in either a title or an artist, and it will find songs similar to that song or artist’s style and play them like a radio station, only commercial free. Also, you can give a song the thumbs up to play more songs similar to it, or give it the thumbs down to stop playing it and play fewer similar songs. You don’t have to give an opinion on every song. As time passes, in theory, Pandora will get closer and closer to a perfect radio station for you.

You don’t have to limit yourself to one starting song, either. You can create multiple “stations” for yourself, each playing a different kind of music, then shuffle between them though something called “Quick Mix.”

Another nice feature is that you can share your radio stations with other people; just give them the link and they can listen to your station. You can even let people listen to your Quick Mix. It’s a really cool system.

I went to see Little Miss Sunshine yesterday as well. I have to agree with Arick – it is one of the best movies I’ve ever seen.

What really struck me about little Miss Sunshine is how substantial a cinematic element the soundtrack is. It really gave the movie its mood.

Check out the Little Miss Sunshine soundtrack…

This Binary Universe – BT September 22, 2006

I recently got this album off iTunes. It was certainly worth the $11.95 spent.

There are six songs, the the combined length is more than an hour. The music itself is sort of techno, and very powerful in its own way. It’s hard to describe. Some of the songs mix in mechanical noises and such, which can be strange, but actually works well.

The songs were very much intended, I think, to be played in order. It seems to tell a story, starting off calm, building, then returning to tranquility.

I’m not sure how many other people would like this album, but personally, I think it’s an awesome album. It works very well for passing the time in Health class.
